The Pymatuning Lake Association is a non-profit organization that was established in 1945 to promote tourism, fishing, hunting, recreational boating, and other outdoor activities in the Lakeland Area. The Association and its Board of Directors promote the diverse recreational and sport-oriented facilities through advertising publications, crappie and walleye fishing tournaments, kids free fishing derby, a semi-annual newsletter, and an annual magazine containing a variety of articles about the lake as well as advertising local businesses in the area.
The Pymatuning Lake Association works toward the betterment of the lake by adhering to conservation practices. No project undertaken by the Pymatuning Lake Association shall in any way harm the water environment or endanger any fish or wildlife habitat.
The Pymatuning Lake Association works in conjunction with the PA Fish and Boat Commission, Ohio Waterways Commission, Ohio and Pennsylvania State Park Systems, Ohio Division of Wildlife, Department of Environmental Resources of Pennsylvania, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and members of the Senate and House of Representatives from both Pennsylvania and Ohio.
The Pymatuning Lake Association sponsors two fishing tournaments each year, Crappie Tournament in the first part of May and the Walleye Tournament in the latter part of May. All profits from these tournaments go to the Habitat Fund.
Our Habitat Project this year is to build 50 porcupine cribs which will be placed South of the Causeway. This annual project is done in conjunction with the PA & OH Parks Systems, PA Fish & Boat Commission, Ohio Fish and Wildlife, volunteers and Pymatuning Lake Association members.
The Pymatuning Lake Association also sponsors an annual Kids Fishing Derby which is free. Next year will be the 20th! In the past years it has had approximately 325-400 kids registered. Prizes are awarded in 7 categories/species of fish (bass, crappie, perch, bluegill, walleye, carp, catfish); in 3 age groups: 2-5 years old; 6-10 years old; and 11-15 years old. Prizes are awarded to first, second, and third place winners. Each child registered also receives a coupon for a hot dog, chips, and a beverage. All this is done by volunteers and donations from various business and organizations.
The Association purchased a pavilion that was erected in 2009 on the South East side of the Causeway. It is known as the Pymatuning Lake Association Pavilion or Pavilion No. 13. It is a very unique structure and offers a great view. The patio area around the grill is constructed of engraved bricks which can be purchased on the Association’s web site. The plans are to also construct a brick walkway to the point.
The Pymatuning Lake Association each year publishes a “Pymatuning Region Visitor’s Guide” in the hopes of helping to encourage tourism to the area, which also helps the businesses in the Lakeland Area. The Association maintains a web site in the hopes of encouraging visitors to the area. As you can see, the Association is kept busy and the only way we can make all these things happen…are with volunteers. Please join us! |
